Overview

Whether legislation changes happen now or sometime in the future, within our industry, Climate Conscious Engineering must happen now and the contribution of Embodied Carbon to the overall building Carbon Footprint is becoming increasingly well-recognised.

Stephen discusses the benefits of MMC from a structural/civil engineers viewpoint, and whether MMC Modular Construction could be one of the solutions to reducing embodied carbon within the construction industry either by a reduction in embodied carbon or by maximising the ability to re-use existing MMC buildings for new developments in the future.

Stephen brings with the discussion how modular construction coupled with a parametric design approach could deliver projects to meet the proposed Part Z embodied carbon building regulations amendment.

Climate based targets are ambitious but essential… from now and the coming years are critical in negating the tipping point of our planet. As a practice Design ID recognises this: it has signed up to Structural Engineers Declare and is committed to making an impact to reduce climate change.
