Event organised by The British Tunnelling Society
The Prague metro started operation on its first section on 9 May 1974. Today, it has a total of 61 stations on three lines with a total length of 65.3 km. A 4th line “D” is under construction from April 2022.
This presentation will focus on the new metro line D and will particularly focus on the Nové Dvory mined station and other structures designed by Mott MacDonald. Because the Nové Dvory station will serve as the terminus of the first operating segment, it contains a diverse number of structures. In particular, the cavern of the station and the south escalator tunnel, the excavation of the station from the access tunnel using a cross dome, and the branching of the running tunnels behind the station turnout present challenges for construction.
Finally, we look at an innovative design in the form of geothermal energy harvesting in the station for a new development above the station.
After the event, there will be a networking session with food and drinks sponsored by Mott MacDonald at the ICE Kendal's bar.
