The newly remodelled forecourt at Salisbury railway station now offers a more welcoming, accessible and vibrant gateway to the historic cathedral city for both visitors and residents.
Thanks to a £4.5 million investment from the Future High Streets Fund, the area has been transformed with extensive new landscaping—featuring trees, shrubs and attractive planting—alongside stylish street furniture and intuitive wayfinding that makes navigating the space noticeably easier.
Sustainable travel sits at the heart of the redesign. A new bus interchange and dedicated cycle hub provide seamless links to onward journeys, encouraging greener and more active ways to travel.
Safety and comfort were also key priorities. The forecourt is now illuminated by a mix of wall-mounted and pole-mounted lighting, creating a secure and pleasant environment throughout the day and evening.
Completion of the scheme represents a major step forward in strengthening the connection between the station and the city centre. The improvements integrate with the Fisherton Gateway project, completed in 2025, which shares the same design principles. Together, they create an attractive, coherent and user‑friendly route for pedestrians travelling to and from the heart of Salisbury.
During this talk, Chris Roff from M Group Highways and Jack Francis from Wiltshire Council will share insights into the project’s construction and design development, as well as key challenges and memorable moments from the delivery process.
