Overview

The concept of sustainability encompasses a wide spectrum, spanning social, economic, and environmental dimensions. This online event, organised by ICE MENA will concentrate on the following key areas:

  • Exploration of diverse supplementary cementitious materials and their role in sustainability, encompassing their definition and significance within the construction sector.
  • Examination of the drawbacks associated with cement production and their consequent impact on the environment.
  • Introduction of the practice of producing high-strength alternative concrete in construction, a technique that is poised to be adopted in the GCC region and globally to mitigate environmental effects while upholding sustainability.
  • Shedding light on the advantageous attributes of geopolymer concrete in comparison to conventional concrete, underlining its potential to yield compelling benefits.

Dr. Kiran Kumar Poloju holds the esteemed accreditation as a Microsoft-certified educator specialising in technology literacy for educators in 21st-century learning design. His academic journey includes the successful completion of a Ph.D. and a master of technology in civil engineering from Acharya Nagarjuna University, India, and the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, India.

With over a decade of experience, he has made significant contributions within both the academic and industry domains, spanning esteemed engineering institutions in India and Oman. His tenure of 8 years within the civil and mechanical engineering department is marked by continuous growth. Embarking as an assistant professor, he ascended to the position of head of the civil engineering department.

Dr. Kiran Kumar Poloju boasts an impressive profile of achievements, encompassing 87 research publications, 5 registered patents, and the successful oversight of 4 research projects backed by the Research Council, Oman. His adeptness in employing the flipped teaching approach, enhancing students' learning capabilities through strategic instruction, is noteworthy.

Demonstrating his commitment to professional development, he has secured certifications from esteemed bodies including IEI, SESI, and IAENG. His educational prowess has earned him the esteemed Fellowship (FHEA), attesting to his alignment with the UK Professional Standards Framework for higher education teaching and learning support.

Beyond academia, his contributions extend to community outreach and impactful teaching, meriting the distinguished "BEST STAFF" recognition from Middle East College for three consecutive years: 2019, 2020, and 2021. He successfully participated in the Falling Walls Lab Competition in Oman and received the Young Scientist Award from the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO), alongside numerous other accolades. Additionally, he has undertaken the role of a valued reviewer for multiple indexed journals, underscoring his commitment to advancing scholarly knowledge.
