Overview

Mumbai’s Coastal Road project, officially named the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, is a prime example of complex urban infrastructure. As the general consultants, AECOM spearheaded this massive undertaking, transforming the city's western coastline. This webinar will provide a detailed look into the advanced engineering and scientific principles applied to construct this 29.2 km, 8-lane expressway. We will explore the technical challenges of reclaiming 111 hectares from the Arabian Sea and building a twin tunnel, the first of its kind in India, which passes beneath ecologically sensitive areas like Malabar Hill.

The talk will focus on the use of an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) and the innovative design of interchanges to optimize traffic flow. The project significantly reduces travel time and pollution, while also dedicating 70% of reclaimed land to public spaces, setting a new standard for sustainable urban development. This is more than just a road; it's a model for integrating crucial infrastructure with public utility and environmental considerations in a dense metropolitan setting. Join us to understand the technical solutions that made this engineering marvel a reality.
