Overview
The Cooling Prize is named after Dr Leonard Cooling, one of the founders of British Soil Mechanics, a former chair of the BGA, and the 2nd Rankine Lecturer.
At this year’s event there will be a short presentation on the history of the competition, followed by each of four finalists presenting their papers. Each finalist will give a 10 minute presentation before a short question and answer period. The four finalists are:
- Serena Pak Chi Che – ‘Overcoming challenges in horizontal directional drilling with geotechnical engineering’
- Maria Chalakatavaki – ‘A geotechnical plasticity framework for cable-seabed interaction modelling’
- James Creasey – ‘ROBOCONE p-y module: A new site investigation tool’
- Alexander Swallow – ‘Grout injection in open caisson shaft construction’
There will be a short keynote lecture from Professor Fleur Loveridge, former winner of the Cooling Prize, before the winner of the 56th Cooling Prize is announced.
