Overview

The award-winning Foyle Street Network Upgrades Project demonstrates how early, genuine, and sustained stakeholder engagement can enable the successful delivery of complex infrastructure within a busy city centre environment.

The presentation will explore how Northern Ireland Water, Arup and BSG Civil Engineering worked collaboratively with local businesses, Translink, statutory authorities and the wider community to understand stakeholder needs and embed them into engineering design, project planning and construction.

Particular focus will be given to the design and delivery of critical upgrades to century old water and wastewater infrastructure, including the sustainable design approach and consideration of climate resilience and carbon reduction, alongside the early engagement strategy, construction phasing, temporary bus facility and communication measures used to minimise disruption.

The presentation will share lessons from the project and demonstrate how collaborative design, flexibility and a stakeholder first approach helped deliver lasting environmental, infrastructure and community benefits for Derry city centre.
