ICE HKA G&S, together with HKIHT, IMechE HKB, and HKIE YMC, is organising a joint society site visit to the GBA Shiziyang passageway, a mega-scale transportation infrastructure project connecting Nansha District, Guangzhou, and the Binhai Bay New Area, Dongguan. The engineering centrepiece is the Shiziyang Bridge, a double-deck steel truss girder suspension bridge featuring a 2,180-metre main span that achieves a ‘one-span river crossing’. Boasting a 16-lane layout across two levels, 342-metre steel-concrete composite main towers, and massive anchorages, the project breaks multiple world records in suspension bridge engineering while managing complex construction challenges in high-wind and coastal environments.
Throughout the site visit, participants will attend an in-depth technical presentation at the Shiziyang Channel Project Department and tour the active construction frontline. Participants will observe firsthand the project's critical transition to upper-structure work: including main saddle lifting, pilot rope crossings, and catwalk installation; while learning about the deployment of ultra-large tower cranes, smart lifting equipment, and BIM-integrated digital construction platforms. Attendees will depart with a deeper understanding of ultra-long-span bridge design, practical insight into advanced maritime engineering technology, and enhanced professional connections between young engineers from Guangdong and Hong Kong.
