Overview

This professional development workshop is aimed at early-career engineers working towards ICE professional qualification and seeking to strengthen their understanding of ICE Attributes 2 and 3, with a focus on Management and Leadership and Commercial Ability. The session explores how these attributes can be demonstrated through day-to-day engineering practice and how engineers can identify, structure, and present evidence from routine project activities for ICE professional review and competency assessment.

The workshop provides practical guidance on developing effective management and leadership skills within engineering teams, including planning and organising work, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing resources, communicating effectively, and demonstrating leadership in project environments. It also introduces key aspects of commercial awareness, including understanding project objectives, costs, resources, risk, contracts, and the commercial implications of engineering decisions.

The session will also demonstrate how everyday activities such as team coordination, task planning, stakeholder engagement, resource management, technical decision-making, and involvement in project commercial matters can be translated into clear and structured evidence against ICE Attribute 2 and 3 requirements. Industry insights and real-world examples will be used to help participants relate the requirements to their own experience and identify opportunities to develop and record relevant evidence.

In person session

The event will be delivered as an in-person interactive session, combining presentation-led guidance with practical discussion and experience-sharing.

This event is organised and delivered by ICE Yorkshire & Humber in collaboration with the AtkinsRéalis – Power New Build (PNB) department.
