Richard Fish
Richard Fish is a Fellow of both the ICE and IStructE, having spent the majority of his near 50-year career in the design, construction, maintenance and management of bridges. Working initially in the public sector, in 2009 he became an independent consultant specialising in bridge asset management. Since then he has worked for both public- and private-sector clients in the UK and internationally.
Fish is a past chair (2005-09) and member (2012-24) of the UK Bridges Board. Until recently he was technical secretary of the UK’s Bridge Owners Forum, a position he held for 14 years. These roles have enabled him to influence the development of the UK’s bridge research programmes and bridge-management policy and strategy.
Fish is recognised as one of the UK’s leading authorities on bridge collapses and is author of the book Bridge Failures and Lessons Learnt. He has also assisted with the ICE Knowledge Hub’s ‘Lessons Learnt’ case studies.
