Dominic Henson started working at Atkins in August 2019.

ICE Wales Cymru has announced Dominic Henson as the winner of the 2022 Apprentice of the Year Award.

Henson started at Atkins in August 2019 and impressed the judges with his continual development.

He’s been consistently gaining new skills through an increasingly challenging workload and pushing himself outside of work to improve his abilities and understanding of engineering.

On hearing about his win, Henson highlighted the support of Atkins and the ICE.

“I’m very grateful to Atkins and the ICE for the opportunities and all the support I’ve received so far. I hope this is a good steppingstone for more great opportunities in the future".

Henson will receive a monetary prize, trophy and certificate of his achievement at the ICE Wales Cymru 2022 Awards ceremony. This celebration will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on 30 September 2022.

ICE Wales Apprentice of the Year Award

Applicants are invited to apply for this award during National Apprentice Week.

It’s open to all ICE members on civil engineering apprenticeships across Wales.

Assessment is done by a panel of judges, considering the applicant’s CV and a 500-word written statement on why they should be ICE Wales Apprentice of the Year.

This statement must include details of their activities and progress as well as demonstrating their commitment to the ICE.

All information must be verified and supported by their line manager.

The winner will typically demonstrate excellence in achievement and willingness to be an outstanding ambassador for the civil engineering industry.

ICE Wales Cymru Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by SWIEET, is awarded for excellence in both professional and academic study undertaken by apprentices of the Wales Apprenticeship Alliance.

This alliance is a collaboration between ICE Wales Cymru, the Welsh government (transport and apprenticeship divisions), Arcadis and SWIEET.

The ICE Wales Cymru 2022 Awards ceremony is sponsored by Alun Griffiths (contractors) Ltd.
