The ICE has revealed the shortlist of innovative projects that will be recognised at this year's Robert Stephenson Awards.

Fourteen engineering projects, including a new conservation centre, major interchange, viaduct refurbishment and reservoir siphon were shortlisted across three categories:

  • Large Category Award: for projects with a total cost in excess of £5 million
  • Medium Category Award: for projects costing between £1 million and £5 million
  • Small Category Award: for projects costing less than £1 million

The awards are held every year to showcase the outstanding work done by civil engineers from across North East England over the past two years.

The 2024 shortlist

Large Category Award

  • A66 Elton Interchange
  • Grassholme Reservoir: Northern Embankment Stabilisation Works
  • South Bank Quay - Phase 1

Medium Category Award

  • Burnhope Reservoir Operational Resilience
  • Hexham Industrial Estates Flood Alleviation Scheme
  • Mandale Bridge
  • Mosswood Run to Waste and Power Upgrade
  • Trinity Enterprise Zone Enabling Works
  • West Hallington Reservoir Siphon

Small Category Award

  • Bishopton Road Footbridge
  • Cawledge Viaduct Refurbishment
  • Dawdon Short Sea Outfall Refurbishment
  • Sustainable Infrastructure in Hartlepool
  • Whitburn Conservation Centre

Outstanding individuals will also be recognised in the following categories:

The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Newcastle on 7 March.
