The ICE’s Enabling Better Infrastructure (EBI) programme will be working with Peru to strengthen the country’s third infrastructure plan.
The Peruvian Ministry of Economy and Finance has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work with the ICE-led Enabling Better Infrastructure (EBI) programme.
Signed on 26 September, the agreement will see the parties work together to strengthen the third version of Peru’s infrastructure plan.
Engagement with the EBI programme will include dialogues to provide specialist insights to strengthen how Peru delivers on its needs now and in the future.
The MoU signing took place as part of a week-long programme of prestigious events convened by the UK Embassy in Lima.
EBI participated alongside the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission (NIC), the Infrastructure Projects Authority (IPA), and the UK Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).
The bodies shared insights and best practice on how to plan and prioritise infrastructure in the UK and abroad.
Infrastructure taskforce
Peru’s 8th Infrastructure Taskforce, held on 24 September, was a flagship event, part of the week-long set of activities.
Attended by senior government officials and the UK Embassy in Lima, it’s the highest-level infrastructure forum held in Peru.
The session provided an opportunity to share how the EBI programme works with governments worldwide, including outlining its most recent support to New Zealand.
EBI dialogue
On 29 September, the EBI programme also ran its first dialogue with the Peruvian government.
Used to gather insights on the bespoke support needed on the country’s infrastructure plan, the session helped to identify key areas for future conversations.
Upcoming engagement will form part of EBI’s 1-2-1 support with specialists.
Gavin Cook, His Majesty’s Ambassador to Peru, highlighted the value of the MoU.
He said: “The agreement to work with the Enabling Better Infrastructures programme is an important moment in the development of Peru’s next infrastructure plan and exemplifies how the country is committed to delivering infrastructure that will deliver what people need.”
