ICE carbon vision and strategy
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) underpin everything we do as an institution, so the trustees therefore welcomed the suggestion from the Decarbonisation Community Advisory Board (CAB) that it should reflect on its own carbon impact and consider opportunities to decarbonise.
It was agreed that the ICE needs to frame its decarbonisation efforts in a global context and demonstrate that as an organisation it is also walking the walk.
Trustees agreed that the ICE needs to review its carbon footprint and have a plan for reduction and mitigation.
ICE directors will be working with their principal committees to consider the impact their work has on the environment and look at ways to reduce it.
ICE 2024-2028 strategy
The DG&S presented the ICE’s forward-looking strategy, which builds on previous years and keeps the UNSDGs at the heart of its work.
Trustees discussed and agreed the five-year rolling plan that will support the strategy.
The plan will now be shared with ICE Council ahead of being signed off at the Trustee Board meeting in September.
Enabling Better Infrastructure (EBI) programme
The Trustee Board had a thoughtful discussion on the ICE policy and external affairs team’s work on EBI.
The EBI programme aims to help national policymakers around the world improve the way they plan and prioritise infrastructure.
The guidance for EBI has recently been updated and the team is currently consulting on those changes.
More information on how members can offer their input can be found on the ICE website.
There was some discussion on the priority markets, and general agreement that excellent work is being done but the consensus was that not enough members are aware of it.
Looking ahead
Like many other organisations, the institution is keen to understand more about how artificial intelligence (AI) will shape the future both for the ICE and the infrastructure sector.
The opportunities and risks for the ICE will be discussed at July’s Council meeting with Aaron Woods, ICE’s chief information officer (CIO) leading the conversation.
