Trustees discussed a range of topics including the ICE’s 2024 plan, the TTL strategy and feedback from the latest ICE survey.
This was the final Trustee Board meeting for Matt Colton and Sabih Khisaf, whose terms as trustees have come to an end.
They have both shown passion and insight during their time on the board.
The ICE and I are very grateful for their valuable contribution to the board.
Thomas Telford Ltd strategy
Rachel White, chair of TTL, took trustees through their strategy and their plans for the coming year.
With Andrea Naylor now firmly established as managing director, the ICE’s commercial arm is looking at how it can diversify its portfolio and improve products and operations through digitalisation.
ICE 2024-28 plan
Following June’s meeting at which the plan was initially presented to trustees, the DG has sought feedback from all standing committees as well as Council.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to review the plan and provide comments and feedback.
The final version has now been signed off by the Trustee Board.
ICE survey
Every two years the ICE conducts a survey of its customers, the majority of whom are members.
The trustees are grateful to all who completed the survey which took place earlier this year.
The results allow the institution to track its performance across a range of areas.
Because many of our members are also members of other professional institutions, we’re also able to compare how we’re doing against our peers.
I’m delighted to say that satisfaction and pride in the ICE remains strong, although active member engagement in terms of mentoring, volunteering and reviewers is slightly down compared to 2021, perhaps reflecting a general drop in volunteering across the UK.
There are plenty of opportunities for members to get involved with the ICE’s programmes of works and I encourage everyone to find out more about the opportunities available.
The DG&S and ICE’s board of directors are reviewing the results in detail and will work to ensure the ICE uses the findings to maintain its position among the other engineering institutions.
Looking ahead
The September meeting was my last as president and chair of the Trustee Board and I am hugely grateful to trustees and ICE colleagues who have supported me over the last year.
I remain committed to supporting the ICE and am delighted to be handing over the presidency to Anusha Shah this November.
