The annual awards, now in their 70th year, celebrate civil engineering talent across the region.

Judges of the 2025 Yorkshire and Humber Civil Engineering Awards had their work cut out as they set out to shortlist a record number of projects.
Twenty engineering projects from across the region have been shortlisted in the awards with over half belonging to the water sector. They range from sewage spill reduction programmes and fish pass solutions to sustainable drainage systems and reservoir safety improvements.
The annual awards, now in their 70th year, aim to celebrate the abundance of civil engineering talent and expertise that exists across the region.
It’s an opportunity to shine a light on outstanding projects and individuals and recognise hard work in the profession.
The award categories
- Smeaton Award, for projects costing under £5 million
- Centenary Award, for projects costing more than £5 million
- Sir John Fowler Award, for studies and research
- Net Zero Award, for projects that set new standards in lowering the carbon footprint of projects in Yorkshire and Humber
- STEM Ambassador of the Year Award, for individuals who have inspired the next generation of civil engineers in the most innovative and engaging way
Awards ceremony
The winners will be announced on the evening of 13 March at a gala dinner and awards ceremony taking place for the first time in Hull, at the Doubletree by Hilton.
Guests will be joined by the ICE’s 160th President Professor Jim Hall as part of his presidential visit to the region.
