Overview

The event will begin with the ICE Kent and East Sussex Branch’s AGM, offering an opportunity to network with fellow professionals and explore how you can get involved in the work of the 2026–2027 committee. We look forward to hearing your ideas and discussing how, together, we can shape the branch’s future activities.

The AGM will be followed by a technical talk examining key developments in fire safety and building regulation.

Since the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, the construction industry has undergone a fundamental transformation. Significant changes to legislation, regulation, guidance and professional practice have reshaped how buildings are designed, assessed, approved and delivered. For professionals outside of fire engineering, the pace and scale of this change can make it difficult to maintain a clear understanding of the evolving regulatory landscape and its practical implications. The industry is now markedly different from that of a decade ago, and further significant change is already on the horizon.

Our speaker will delve into the overview of changes since Grenfell, Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Engineer Advisory Panel & Fire Forward Collective and good practice, including:

  • Regulatory updates & practice changes
  • Building regulations, High Risk Building, Gateway Process, Regulatory Reform & Statutory Consultation
  • Fire Engineer Advisory Panel & Fire Forward Collective
  • General Practice – Fire safety strategy vs RIBA Stages, competency and qualified, when is a Fire Engineer required, and the building control process, HRB vs non-HRB
