Lewis Brimmell (pictured above) is confirmed as ICE North West chair.

Lewis Brimmell, a chartered civil engineer and an associate at SLR consulting, has been appointed as chair of the ICE North West’s regional committee for 2024/25.

As a member of the regional committee for three years and chair of the ICE Manchester branch in 2020/21, Brimmell brings a wealth of volunteer experience and passion to the role.

During his year as chair, Brimmell will focus on increasing member engagement and fostering a collaborative environment.

Brimmell said: “I’d love to see more involvement from our current members in the North West region, whether it’s participating in events, sharing expertise or simply connecting with fellow members.”

“It is of paramount importance to meet new people from other backgrounds, and the civil engineering industry is no different.

“Meeting other professionals allows us to observe and learn new approaches which you can then put to use in your own careers.”

Brimmell’s new role begins immediately, and he will chair the first committee meeting of his term in September.

Support from ICE North West

The ICE North West regional team welcomes the new appointment.

Emma Antrobus, ICE North West regional director, said: “It’s really important for our members to be confident in the services and support available from the ICE, so we are looking forward to supporting Lewis in improving accessibility and awareness of the institution.”

Committee members volunteer their own time to support members of the ICE, whether that’s through running networking events, informational talks or site visits.

This doesn’t go unnoticed by ICE North West.

Antrobus said: “I would like to thank every single member, especially our regional and branch committees for their time, effort and commitment they put into their roles as volunteers, and particularly the outgoing chair of our regional committee, Nushma Juwaheer.”

Brimmell was formally elected as the ICE North West chair for 2024/25 at the region’s AGM on 19 August 2024.

The ICE North West regional committee

Kit Wolverson, senior engineer at Mott MacDonald, was elected as senior vice chair.

The 2024/25 junior vice chair is Antje Budge, design coordinator at Balfour Beatty.

Ellie Carter, who won ICE North West’s 2024 Rising Star Award, will be working closely with Lewis as the regional committee’s first Future Leader.

These posts, together with the chairs from the North Wests’ five regional branches and three special interest groups, will support the regional chair as part of the ICE North West regional committee.
