Early Careers Network

ECNet in Yorkshire & Humber represents developing engineers who are working towards professional qualifications.

The committee arranges several events, activities and training opportunities which support our members with their professional development and networking with other developing engineers in the region. This enables our members to discuss local issues which affect us as civil engineers and also provides an opportunity to have a say in how the ICE is run.

Special interest groups

ICE Yorkshire and Humber has a number of special interest groups.

The groups have a variety of responsibilities and meet several times a year. All group members are volunteers and come from a range of backgrounds within the civil engineering profession.

The network promotes civil engineering projects, issues, challenges, and opportunities across the Humber region of East Riding, Hull, North and North East Lincolnshire.

The network aims to organise four evening meetings per year. These include presentations and discussions on technical or managerial aspects of civil engineering, or projects with a significant and interesting civil engineering element.

The retired members' group (RICE) is a group of ICE members in the Yorkshire and Humber region who have retired, or are close to retirement. The group arranges a programme of daytime social events, site visits, and activities to increase the knowledge of members. Formed in 2002, the group currently has around 100 members.

Meetings usually comprise coffee followed by a talk by an invited speaker, and conclude with an optional buffet lunch. Other meetings include visits to construction sites and other facilities of interest, and joint meetings are also held with colleagues from IMechE/IET. There are also three main social events on the group's calendar – an annual golf competition, summer social outing, and the Christmas lunch.

Any ICE member may attend a meeting, but group members receive detailed meeting notices directly from the Honorary Secretary. The group has a formal constitution, which provides for the usual committee appointees.

If you would like to meet with former colleagues and fellow engineers in a friendly and social environment, you would be very welcome to join the retired members' group. To join or for further information, please contact us. There is currently no joining fee or annual subscription to the group.

Note - when retired, membership of the ICE can be retained for a reduced subscription. Please see the membership fees and subscriptions page for details.
