Overview

This event will provide students and early-career professionals with an introduction to the UK nuclear industry and the vital role structural engineers play in designing, constructing, maintaining and decommissioning some of the country’s most complex infrastructure.

Ross Paxton and Daniel Gilmore will explore the unique engineering challenges presented by nuclear infrastructure, drawing on their own experience across the nuclear sector and sharing case studies from projects in which they have been involved.

Aman Khandelwal will introduce the Institution of Civil Engineers, including an overview of its role in supporting the civil engineering profession. Students will learn about the opportunities available through ICE and how it can support their professional development.

Daniel Gilmore is a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer at Sellafield Ltd, where he is responsible for undertaking structural analyses of buildings subject to static and dynamic forces, such as earthquakes. He is also responsible for developing new methods for seismic, impact and soil–structure interaction (SSI) analyses.
