ICE has agreements with several engineering institutions around the world. These agreements recognise their professional qualifications as equivalent to ours.
If you’re a member of one of the following institutions, you can apply directly for the equivalent grade of ICE membership and Engineering Council registration.
Can I apply?
To apply for membership through mutual recognition, you must have:
- Full and current membership of your home institution (see the table above)
- Achieved that membership through the standard route with a review or interview (e.g. not transferred membership from another institution)
- Formally accredited academic qualification(s) for the grade you're applying for. If your academic qualification(s) have been assessed by your home institution, we may ask to assess them ourselves
What else do I need to do?
You must also show us, in writing, that you have the level of professional knowledge and experience needed for the grade you are applying for.
Your experience is measured against a set of ‘attributes’ for member (CEng or IEng MICE) grade, and against 'standards' for technician membership (EngTech MICE).
To become a member (CEng or IEng MICE), your application must be supported by three professionally qualified engineers who are registered at the same grade or above. At least one must be an ICE member. The sponsor questionnaire lists who is eligible to sponsor your application.
Please contact email@example.com about sponsors if you wish to apply for EngTech MICE.
If you’re eligible for recognition by this route, you can still choose to qualify directly by Professional Review if you prefer. In addition, HKIE members only can apply directly for Chartered Professional Review without the need for an ICE career appraisal or training agreement.
If you do qualify by recognition, you will not be able to use your UK registration as the basis for registration with other engineering institutions. If you would like further advice about this please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
