ICE has agreements with several engineering institutions around the world. These agreements recognise their professional qualifications as equivalent to ours.
If you’re a member of one of the following institutions, you can apply for the equivalent grade of ICE membership and Engineering Council registration, without having to do a Professional Review.
Can I apply?
To apply for membership through mutual recognition, you must have:
- Full and current membership of your home institution (see the table above)
- Achieved that membership through the standard route with a review or interview (e.g. not transferred membership from another institution)
- Formally accredited academic qualification(s) for the grade you're applying for. If your academic qualification(s) have been assessed by your home institution, we may ask to assess them ourselves
What else do I need to know?
You must also show us, in writing, that you have the level of professional knowledge and experience needed for the grade you are applying for.
Your experience is measured against a set of ‘attributes’ for member (MICE) grade, and against Engineering Council 'standards' for technician membership (MICE).
To become a member (CEng or IEng MICE), your application must be supported by three professionally qualified engineers who are registered at the same grade or above. At least one must be an ICE member. The sponsor questionnaire lists who is eligible to sponsor your application.
For engineering technician level (EngTech MICE), you need two ICE members to support your application. They must also be at the same grade or higher.
All sponsors must be registered at the equivalent grade, or higher, as the grade you are applying for.
If you apply this way, rather than going through the Professional Review, you may not be able to use your ICE membership to register with other engineering institutions. If you want to use your ICE membership for registration outside the UK or with another institution, please contact us for advice at email@example.com
