The ICE works closely with further and higher education providers to support the development of civil engineering students and academics.

The scheme provides partner universities and colleges with a raft of professional development opportunities and lifelong learning – enhancing the employability of students and providing bespoke assistance to academic departments.

How do ICE academic partners benefit?

  • ICE’s academic partnership manager works closely with partners to provide tailored support to staff and students.
  • The programme offers a bridge to industry and helps to prepare students for professional life.
  • Students can access bespoke professional development opportunities to begin their journey to professional qualification, giving them a head start in their career and enhancing their experience and satisfaction.
  • Student ambassadors are appointed to help improve on-campus engagement and encourage fellow students to take advantage of the additional ICE support available to them.
  • Academic partners commit to a culture of early professionalism among students via ICE membership and industry contacts.

Support for your CPD

  • ICE Knowledge Hub*, featuring recommended topics and learning outcomes - available exclusively for members. (If you are not a member but you are working for an ICE academic partner, please request access using this form.)
  • Brunel International Lecture Series: a programme focusing on resilience and sustainability in infrastructure development. The series usually opens with a lecture at the ICE HQ in London, UK. The rest of the lectures take place around the globe.
  • The Unwin Lecture: this annual lecture was created in 1948 to focus on engineering research and how technology could affect the capability of civil engineers.
  • ICE-Costain Health and Safety Prestige Lecture: an annual event bringing you a focus on a specific topic.

  • Take up a role in the local Early Career Group.
  • If you are applying for a civil engineering course, you have the opportunity to seek financial and career assistance through the ICE QUEST scholarship program.
  • Annually, every civil engineering department puts forth the most deserving student as the recipient of the esteemed ICE Student Prize.
  • Learn how you can record work experience.
  • ICE professional development opportunities including lecture toolkits, modules and learning resources, to kick-start progress towards professional qualification. Activities can be recorded and certified to count towards the requirements for professional qualification.
